SCOALA GIMNAZIALA IZBICENI

Our school is located in the south-west of Romania,160 km from the capital, Bucharest. It is a big village and it has its typical small-village problems (lack of contact with the world, etc.). There are 490 pupils and 40 teachers in our school.

The main industry is agriculture and this has had a substantial decline in revenue in the last few years. The unemployment rate is relatively high. We educate students between 6 to 14 years old from a rich multicultural and multinational environment. Some pupils in our school come from the near villages by school buses and others are in the village centre. Most of the students have socio-economic problems since they come from single parent families or families with low incomes.

 In addition, many of our students suffer from learning disabilities that affect their study results in language learning. Pupils who come by buses, have some problems. For example; they have to get up early so, lots of them can’t have breakfast. In winter because of cold and snow, sometimes they can’t come to school. Most of our students come from a socially disadvantaged background and some of them have single parents. 5 % of the students receive scholarships because they come from families without resources.

Some of the students come from villages and they are poor economically.There is a special needs educator working with pupils who have special needs. The teachers are constantly trying to keep the passions for learning in students alive, as we see each day how students are less and less motivated to learn, to discover, to experiment in knowing positive things. Another big problem of the school is decreasing number of pupils because of the unemployment of our village.

There are students from educationally inefficient, sepearated and threatened by alcholism families. We believe that participation in the Erasmus+ project would provide our students with opportunity to spend time in a creative way with their peers and to increase their motivation to learn. We hope that involving them into the intermational project will let know other cultures and broaden their minds By participating in this international project students will be more motivated to study English language and with practical experience in communication in English language, acquired during the project, will improve their study results. In addition, students from socially disadvantaged families will be able to travel to the European partner countries and learn about their cultures.

Mission of our school is:

- cooperating education

 – sufficient, able to make a living personality;

 - provide temporary science and culture level meeting knowledge and values;

 - motivate students’ equality and solidarity with people having different abilities and views, social opportunities, teach – sensibility to others;

 - develop democratic, moral and humanistic ideas.

 Staff of the school is creating an atmosphere of cooperation, sharing experience, integrating educational content, preparing projects.

As well the school is opened to challenges. The philosophy of our school is to learn during activities Through this project, we hope to encourage more and more students to be opened to intercultural exchange, develop better communication skills, be more tolerant with others and discover the miraculous world we are living in.
